WILLIMANTIC, CT - The Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team netted a pair of second half goals to defeat visiting University of Massachusetts Boston, 2-0, today in a Little East Conference match in Willimantic, CT. The Beacons fall to 4-8-0 overall and 0-4-0 in LEC play, while the Warriors improve to 8-1-3 and 2-0-2.
Freshman midfielder Sean Collins (Bristol, CT) took a header feed from junior defender Nicholas Boretti (Marshfield, MA) and netted his second goal of the season just 1:25 into the second half to give Eastern Connecticut a 1-0 edge. Boretti set up the Warriors' second score as well at the 75:49 mark on a header off the goal kick to junior forward Maxim Fantl (West Hartford, CT), who converted his 10th goal of the year.
Eastern Connecticut State owned a 22-4 shot advantage as junior keeper Domenick Persuitte (West Barnstable, MA) stopped seven shots for UMass Boston. Freshman keeper Carl Appel (West Windsor, NJ) made three saves to earn the victory for the Warriors.
The Beacons will be in action again on Wednesday, October 15 when they travel to Framingham, MA to take on Framingham State College at 3:30 p.m., while Eastern Connecticut hosts Bridgewater State on October 12 at 2:00 p.m.
