BOSTON, MA - Senior defender Michael Savenelli (East Haven, CT) netted his third goal of the season and senior keeper Dan Michalowski (Bristol, CT) recorded his eighth shutout of the year to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team over University of Massachusetts Boston, 1-0, today in a Little East Conference match at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons fall to 4-10-0 overall and 0-5-0 in LEC play, while the Colonials improve to 7-7-2 and 1-2-2.
Western Connecticut State sophomore midfielder Arash Taghavi (Silver Spring, MD) came off the bench to intercept a defensive clear, chest trapped it and set up Savenelli for the only goal of the afternoon at 65:40 of the second half for a 1-0 lead.
Michalowski stopped five shots to earn the win for the Colonials, while UMass Boston junior keeper Domenick Persuitte (West Barnstable, MA) turned away three shots on the day.
The Beacons will be in action again on Saturday, October 25 when they travel to Keene, NH to take on Little East Conference foe Keene State College at 1:00 p.m., while Western Connecticut State travels to Gorham, ME on October 25 to play University of Southern Maine at 12:00 p.m.
