PLYMOUTH, NH -- Freshman forward Stefanos Galouzis (Watertown, MA) scored two goals to propel the University of Massachusetts Boston men's soccer team past Plymouth State University, 3-1, this afternoon at Panther Field on the campus of Plymouth State. The win improves the Beacons record to 5-10 overall, 2-4 in the Little East Conference while the Panthers fall to 5-9-1 and 1-5.
Galouzis opened and closed the game's scoring with his ninth and 10th markers of the season. The midfielder gave UMass Boston a 1-0 lead at the 11:49 mark in the first half after converting a through ball pass from sophomore midfielder Victor Costa (Malden, MA) with a finish to the lower right hand corner of the goal past sophomore keeper Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad NA, Sweeden).
Plymouth State tied that game at 1-1 less than four minutes later on junior midfielder Dre Cabral's (Tokyo, Japan) third goal of the season. Cabral was able to find the back of the net after he was set up by freshman defender Justin Hepburn's (Williamstown, VT).
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the 79th minute of action when UMass Boston sophomore midfielder Reyn Johnson (Mangilao, Guam) broke free and netted the eventual game-winner off a break away for his fifth goal of the campaign to put the Beacons on top 2-1 with 11:18 left to play.
Galouzis added an insurance goal at the 82:20 mark after he collected and put home a rebound off of Ohlsson for his 10th goal of the season.
Ohlsson finished the game with six saves in net for the Panthers while UMass Boston sophomore goalkeeper Brycen Dowd (Mansfield, MA) earned the victory making seven stops between the pipes.
Plymouth State returns to action tomorrow (10/24) when they host Babson College in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match up while UMass Boston is off until Wednesday, October 27 when they head to Buzzards Bay, MA to face Massachusetts Maritime in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
