NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Little East Conference announced the 2011 men’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll Thursday afternoon, and picked to finish sixth this season was the University of Massachusetts Boston as decided by the conference’s eight head coaches.

The Beacons, who closed out their 2010 campaign with a 6-11 record (3-4 LEC), earned a total of 25 points.  Selected to win the Little East Conference title this season was Eastern Connecticut State University.  The Warriors collected three of the possible eight first place votes and edged second place Keene State College by just one point (56 to 55).  The Owls also earned three first place votes as well.

Rhode Island College was selected to finish third overall with 52 points and one first place vote.  The final first place vote and a combined 42 points went to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to close out the top-4 teams.

In fifth was Plymouth State University with 27 points.  The University of Southern Maine was picked to finish seventh this year after earning a combined 18 points, and Western Connecticut State University rounded out the eight-team preseason poll with 13 points.

Under the direction of Myles Berry, who will be in his ninth season this fall, the Beacons will once again be in the hunt for a spot in the Little East Conference tournament.  Led by first team all-conference selection, and reigning Little East Conference Rookie of the Year Stefanos Galouzis, the Beacons will welcome back an experienced core of players in 2011.

Galouzis’ standout rookie campaign was highlighted by a team and conference best 12 goals and a team-high 24 points (2nd in the LEC).  The Watertown, Massachusetts native quickly established himself as one of the top forwards in the conference last season, as he started in 15 of the 17 games played.

Men’s soccer will kick-off their 2011 season on Wednesday, September 7 when they travel to Suffolk University for an 8:30 p.m. match.
