UMASS BOSTON'S MARIN NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's soccer player Henry Marin (Pereira, Colombia/Haverhill (MA) H.S.) has been named Little East Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his play during the week of September 8-14, it was announced today by the conference.

Marin tallied five points on a goal and three assists in three matches for the Beacons, while helping them to a 2-1-0 mark for the week. The senior assisted on a pair of goals in UMass Boston's 4-0 victory over Suffolk University on September 9 and netted his first goal of the season and added an assist to help the Beacons to a 4-1 win at Eastern Nazarene College on September 11. The defender was a key on the defensive side of the field as well, helping UMass Boston hold its opponents to just three goals in as many matches.

A Co-captain, Marin made the switch from forward to the backfield this season and is currently tied for the LEC lead with three assists on the season and is also tied for tops on the team in points (five) and assists, while starting all five matches. He is the only player on the team to have two or more points in two different contests this season.

The Haverhill High School product has played in 48 matches for his career, while making 27 starts and ranks eighth on the Beacons' all-time goals scored list with 18 and 14th on the school's career points ladder with 40. Marin has also tallied three or more points in five matches for his career. The senior burst onto the college scene as a freshman, netting 10 goals to place eighth in the league, while ranking third with four game-winning scores.

UMass Boston is 2-3-0 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday, September 16 when it travels to Buzzards Bay, MA to take on Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 3:30 p.m.
