KISSIMMEE, Fla. – In his 2012 debut Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded his first win of the spring season as the Beacons faced-off against Franklin and Marshall College. The Diplomats defeated the Beacons by the final of 6-1, as two matches were unfinished before the match was called Monday afternoon.
Loyer notched the victory in singles play at the second flight with a hard fought 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Eric Rouff. Loyer also had a strong doubles match with Seth Shavers (Boston, Mass.) as the two dropped a tough 8-4 loss.
Also making their 2012 debut was David Hernandez (Bogota, Columbia) who competed at the first flight in both singles and doubles play. In singles competition, Hernandez dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision, while in doubles play he dropped an 8-5 decision with teammate Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.).
Lai fell at third singles by the final of 6-4, 6-0. Shavers and Himanshu Dubey (Lucknow, India) were both unable to finish their matches which prior to being stopped were both close contests. Lyle Analetto (Belmont, Mass.) was the sixth Beacon to compete on Monday as he dropped an 8-1 decision at fifth singles. Analetto teamed with Dubey at third doubles where the two were handed an 8-1 loss by their Franklin and Marshall opponents.
Men's tennis returns to action tomorrow when they face Curry College at 10 a.m.
