NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – In their first Little East Conference match of the season, the Beacons (4-3, 0-1 Little East) had their hands full as they faced off the reigning conference champions in the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth (5-1, 2-0 Little East), who went on to defeat men's tennis by the final of 7-2 Saturday afternoon at the UMD Athletic Complex.
Picking up the two wins for the Beacons was Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) at third singles and Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) at second singles. Lai defeated his first Little East Conference opponent in dominating fashion as he earned a 6-2, 6-2 win.
For Loyer his match with Guillaume Cotte was a back-and-forth battle that could have gone either, but it was Loyer who pulled out the 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) tiebreaker which at that time made it 4-2 in over the Corsairs.
Unfortunately UMass Dartmouth would sweep the final three singles matches to secure their second conference win of the year. In doubles play, Seth Shavers (Boston, Mass.) and Loyer dropped an extremely close 9-7 decision at second flight.
Men's Tennis returns to action when they face Lesley University at 3:30 p.m.
