NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—For the first time this spring, the UMass Boston men's tennis swept the Little East Conference Weekly Awards, the league office announced Monday morning.
The pair of seniors helped UMass Boston earn a win in their sole completed match of the week, as the Beacons held off Eastern Nazarene College 5-4 for the first win of the season. UMass Boston also played the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, but that match was called midway through, due to heavy rain.
Cullen earned a pair of victories Thursday afternoon at number one doubles and top-flight singles. The senior earned a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory at number one singles against Eastern Nazarene's Andres Biondi and he teamed up with Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) for an 8-2 victory over the Lions' top doubles pair.
Grinhaus picked up his third collegiate victory in the match by outworking Davis Steelman at number five singles. The Beacons' number five singles player earned a 7-5, 7-5 victory to help UMass Boston complete their comeback victory.
The Beacons will be back in action Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m., as the Beacons will look to help Cullen defeat his former team-the Suffolk University Rams.
