KERRVILLE, TX - The Schreiner University men's tennis team shut out University of Massachusetts Boston, 9-0, today in Kerrville, TX. The Mountaineers improve to 4-5-1 on the season, while the Beacons fall to 0-1 in their spring opener.
Freshman John Tran Nguyen (Revere, MA) led the Beacons in his first collegiate action by winning three games on the afternoon. Nguyen was defeated at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1, by junior Tory Manchester and fell at number two doubles with partner Ryan Swann (Warren, VT), 8-2 in proset, by the tandem of junior Stephen Franklin and freshman Parker Wells.
UMass Boston will be in action again on Saturday, March 13 when it travels to Seguin, TX to take on Texas Lutheran University at 11:00 a.m., while Schreiner is off until March 26 when it hosts Howard Payne University at 3:00 p.m.
