QUINCY, MA --The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team swept double play winning all three matches to propel themselves pasting visiting UMass Boston and win Thursday's non- conference match, 6-2. The win brings Eastern Nazarene to 6-5 on the year while the loss drops UMass Boston to 1-4 overall.
Austin Steelman and Brandon Lum rolled in their \#1 double match defeating UMass Boston's Himanshu Dubey and Seth Shavers, 8-1, to get the Lions off to a solid start. Nick Thompson and Ryan Robbins kept up the pace for Eastern Nazarene, taking their match, 8-2, over El Jan Daulo and Quentin Huré. Tim Luz and Eric Johnson completed the sweep for Eastern Nazarene with an 8-4 win over Lyle Analetto and Andrey Boguslavskiy.
In singles play, Eastern Nazarene quickly assured a victory as Steelman and Luz each won their matches in straight sets without losing a game to give the Lions a 5-0 advantage. Johnson tallied up a third singles win for Eastern Nazarene with a solid defeat of Boguslavskiy, 6-2, 6-1.
UMass Boston was able to grab two points on the day as Huré defeated Robbins in a nailbiter, 7-5, 6-2, while Shavers knocked of Lum in the \#1 slot in a 10-8 tie breaker after splitting the first two sets.
The final point of the day remained unclaimed as the rain began to fall making the courts unplayable for the \#6 singles players.
Eastern Nazarene will restart The Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday as the travel to Endicott College for a 1pm match. UMass Boston will take the weekend off before swinging back into action next Thursday against Suffolk University. The Beacons will play Suffolk at Curry College's courts with match time set for 3pm.
