BOSTON, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston men's tennis team defeated host Wheelock College, 7-2, tonight in Boston, MA. The Beacons pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-8 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 1-6.
Junior Andrey Boguslavskiy (Vogograd, Russia) was a double winner for UMass Boston, winning his first collegiate singles match at number six over Lauren Webber, 6-2, 6-2. He combined with freshman El Jan Daulo (Koronadal City, Philippines) to win at third doubles, 8-4 in pro-set over the duo of Webber and Kevin Kareckas. Freshman John Tran Nguyen (Revere, MA) also picked up two wins with a victory at number four singles over Kareckas, 6-1, 6-0 and a 8-4 triumph at second doubles with partner junior Himanshu Dubey (Lucknow, India) over the pair of Katherine Needham and Jessi Ritucci for Wheelock. Sophomore T. Leng (Phnom Penh, Cambodia) was a winner at number one singles with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Wilson Chang, while freshman Ryan Swann (Warren, VT) dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number three singles over Needham. Freshman Brian Sou (Revere, MA) earned his first college win at fifth singles in a three-set battle, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 over Ritucci.
The Beacons will be in action again on Saturday, April 17 when they host University of Southern Maine in a 1:00 p.m. Little East Conference match at the Boston College High School courts, while the Wildcats travel to Cambridge, MA on April 20 for a 6:00 p.m. match with Lesley University.
