PROVIDENCE, RI - The Rhode Island College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting University of Massachusetts Boston today in a Little East Conference match in Providence, RI. The Anchormen improve to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in LEC play, while the Beacons fall to 1-10 and 0-3.
UMass Boston was led by sophomore T. Leng (Phnom Penh, Cambodia), who won nine games on the day and took his opponent, freshman Tigran Gasparyan (Smithfield, RI) to a tie-breaker in the second set, but fell 7-4 to drop the match, 6-1, 7-6 (4). Leng combined with freshman Ryan Swann (Warren, VT) at first doubles in an 8-2 losing effort vs. Gasparyan and junior Matt Allard (Harrisville, RI).
The Beacons were scheduled to host University of Southern Maine tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at the Boston College High School courts, but the match has been postponed with no make-up date announced at this time. They will be in action again on Tuesday, April 27 when they play Little East Conference foe Salem State College at 3:00 p.m. in a match that will be played on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA. Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play when it hosts UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 27.
