QUINCY, MA - The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team defeated University of Massachusetts Boston, 8-1, in a non-conference match up to wrap up their 2010 campaign. Senior Michael Chan (Quincy, MA) led the Lions in number one singles with a 6-0, 7-6 victory over sophomore T. Leng (Phnom Penh, Cambodia).
In number two singles freshman Austin Steelman (Darlington, MD) broke two serves in set one and two to defeat freshman Ryan Swann (Warren, VT) 6-2, 6-2.
Lions James Rich (Duxbury, MA) beat Beacons' junior Himanshu Dubey (Lucknow, India) 6-2, 6-1 at number three singles, while Tyler Restrick (Bel Air, MD) took fourth singles 6-1, 6-2 over Beacons' freshman John Tran Nygun (Revere, MA).
The tightest matches of the day came at number five and six singles. In fifth singles it was the Beacons' junior Andrey Boguslavskiy (Vogograd, Russia) who won in a second set tie breaker 5-7, 7-5 (10-6) over freshman Chris Ramey (North Augusta, SC). Then in sixth singles, Lions freshman Richard Crooks (Collegeville, PA) fought back from a first set 3-6 loss to win the second set tiebreaker 7-5 (10-3).
Eastern Nazarene swept doubles play winning all three matches by the scores of 8-2, 8-3 and 8-5 and finish their season with a record of 5-14. The University of Massachusetts Boston (1-12) plays again on Saturday when it goes on the road to face the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, May 1 at 1:00 pm.
