MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATED BY SOUTHERN MAINE, 7-2, IN SEASON FINALE

BOSTON, MA - The University of Southern Maine men's tennis team defeated host University of Massachusetts Boston, 7-2, today in the Little East Conference regular season finale played at the Boston College High School courts in Boston, MA. The Huskies improve to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in LEC play, while the Beacons fall to 1-14 and 0-6. Southern Maine will be in action again on Tuesday, May 4 when it travels to Providence, RI to take on Rhode Island College at 3:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Little East Conference Tournament. UMass Boston's season is complete.
Southern Maine took two of three in doubles play with senior Joshua Warren (Hermon, ME) and junior Zachary Caron (North Conway, NH) combining to win at number one singles, 8-2, in pro-set over the UMass Boston tandem of sophomore T. Leng (Phnom Penh, Cambodia) and freshman Ryan Swann (Warren, VT). Freshman Tyler Colombo (Gardner, MA) and freshman Jonathan Sproul (Bristol, ME) teamed to win at second doubles for the Huskies over junior Himanshu Dubey (Lucknow, India) and freshman John Tran Nguyen (Revere, MA), 8-3, in pro-set. The Beacons got on the board when junior Andrey Boguslavskiy (Volgograd, Russia) and freshman El Jan Daulo (Koronadal City, Philippines) scored an 8-3 pro-set decision over freshman Christopher Ross (Winthrop, ME) and sophomore Justin Enman (Skowhegan, ME).
Warren picked up his second win of the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-1 win at first singles for Southern Maine over Leng, while Sproul was also a double winner for the Huskies with a 6-2, 6-0 straight set triumph over Swann at number two singles. Caron was the victor for Southern Maine at third singles over Dubey, 6-2, 6-0 and Colombo shut down Nguyen at number four singles, 6-0, 6-2, for the Huskies. Enman gave Southern Maine its seventh point of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at sixth singles over freshman Brian Sou (Revere, MA). Boguslavskiy became UMass Boston's lone double winner in the last match of the day, overcoming a 6-3 first set loss to win the final two sets, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8 over Ross at fifth singles.
