NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's tennis player Dara Chhan (Phnom Penh, Cambodia/Lynn English) has been named Little East Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week of March 30 to April 5, it was announced today by the conference.

The freshman owned a combined 3-1 record in singles and doubles play in a pair of dual matches for the Beacons. Chhan was a perfect 2-0 at number three doubles, teaming with senior Amit Kumar (Bangalore, India) to defeat Jordan Corbin and James Rich of Eastern Nazarene College, 8-6, on April 2. The duo capped the week with an easy 8-1 victory over Western Connecticut State University's Kyle Fiengo and Greg Martin on April 4. It was one of two wins on the day for Chhan, who also won at sixth singles over the Colonials' Martin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to lead UMass Boston to a 6-3 decision for its first-ever victory over Western Connecticut State. His only loss of the week came at Eastern Nazarene vs. Corbin at number six singles, 6-3, 6-4.

For the season, Chhan has posted a combined 3-6 record, including 2-4 in doubles play. A graduate of Lynn English High School, Chhan has played primarily at number six singles and number three doubles.

UMass Boston is currently 1-3 overall in dual match play on the season, including a perfect 1-0 in conference play and will be in action again on Tuesday, April 7 when it travels to Gorham, ME to take on Little East Conference foe University of Southern Maine at 4:00 p.m.
