NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - Freshman Xhulio Uruci (Newton, MA) and sophomore Henry Morales (Chelsea, MA) notched individual wins in the 1,500M and long jump events, respectively, to pace the University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's outdoor track and field squads this afternoon at the Corsair Classic hosted by University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The men's squad finished sixth overall with 60 points while the women's team placed ninth with 17 points. Worcester State took home the men's crown with 160 total points while the UMass Dartmouth women notched the win at home with 178 points.

Uruci won the 1,500M race with a time of 4:12.29 and placed third in the 800M race clocking in at 2:03.80. Morales took home the win in the long jump with a jump of 6.83 meters while Hamza Abdul finished ninth, jumping 6.10 meters. Morales's leap also breaks the UMass Boston outdoor track & field long jump record. The two also had strong showings in the high jump as they both finish tied for fifth with leaps of 1.68m.

In the 100M event, Morales finished fifth with a time of 11.62 seconds and finished second in the 200M for the second consecutive meet with a time of 22.97. Freshman Yves Casseus (Chelsea, MA) finished 25th in the 100M race at 12.65 seconds while freshman Lenford Coote (Brooklyn, NY) finished 32nd in the 100M race clocking in at 13.25 seconds.

Junior Kirby Cole (Shrewsbury, MA) and Casseus came in one after the other in the 200M race with Cole finishing 27th at 25.67 and Casseus coming in 28th at 25.80 seconds. Sophomore Jeff Laurore (Malden, MA) and Coote also finished back to back in the 200M event as Laurore came in 35th with a time of 26.38 seconds and Coote fractions behind him in 36th place at 26.41 seconds. Sophomore Chris Chapman (Brockton, MA) also raced in the 200M coming in 39th with a time of 26.64 while William Francois (Roslindale, MA)rounded out the Beacons in the 200M field clocking in at 28.10 seconds for a 45th place finish.

Sophomore Jake Kerin (Quincy, MA) finished 18th in the 200M event with a time of 24.94 and Abdul was not far behind finishing 21st with a time of 25.11 seconds. Kerin had a strong showing in the 400M race with a 10th place finish with a time of 53.38 seconds. Senior Benajah Potter (Arlington, MA) was not far behind, finishing 14th at 54.59 seconds. Also racing in the 400M for UMass Boston were Laurore, Chapman and Francois as they finished 20th, 23rd and 31st, respectively with times of 55.75, 56.56 and 1:03.42.

Sophomore Ming Wang (Ying Kou, China) competed in the 5000M event, finishing 11th with a time of 18:39.15.

In the Men's relay races, the Beacons 4X100 team finished fifth with a time of 45.86 seconds and their 4X400 team finished fourth coming in at 3:35.19.

Coote also competed in two throwing events, finishing 19th in both with a toss of 9.41 meter in the shot put and throw of 22.68 meters in the discus.

In the women's field, sophomore Samara Faustin (Lynn, MA) raced well in the 100M, finishing 15th with a time of 13.76 seconds. Sophomore Audra Hite (Dorchester, MA), freshman Ariana Leao (New Bedford, MA) and sophomore Elisa Ogawa (Yamanashi, Japan) also raced in the 100M race, finishing 20th, 23rd, and 32nd, respectively, with times of 13.80, 14.09 and 15.41 seconds. All four raced in the 200M as well as Faustin clocked in at 28.91 seconds for a 16th place finish. Leao was next, finishing 18th with a time of 28.96 seconds followed by Hite's 23rd place showing at 29.62 seconds. Ogawa placed 34th overall with a time of 31.87 seconds. Hit also finished eighth overall in the long jump with a leap of 4.32 meters.

Leao and Ogawa raced in the 400M event as well, placing fourth and 15th as Leao came in at 1:02.83 and Ogawa at 1:08.79. Also racing in the 400M was junior Tunisia Mambala (Gardena, CA) who finished 21st at 1:17.63. Mambala was also the only Beacon to race in the 800M race, finishing 14th with a time of 3:12.31

The Beacons 4X100M relay team placed fourth with a time of 53.90 seconds.

The UMass Boston outdoor track & field squad will return to action on Saturday, April 16 at the Northeastern Solomon Husky Invitational in Dedham, MA starting at 10:00 a.m.
