Track and Field Alumni Brunch a Success in its Debut
BOSTON, Mass. – Over the weekend, former and current members of the UMass Boston track and field program came together on the campus of Northeastern University as part of the first-annual UMass Boston Track and Field Alumni Brunch.
Some of the alumni in attendance at Saturday's special event were Michelle Gildea '11, Benajah Potter '11, David York, Jr. '10, Mitchell Haley '11, Ryan Norton '09, and Tunisia Mambala. Also on hand was UMass Boston Chancellor J. Keith Motley, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor of Athletics and Recreation, Special Projects and Programs Charlie Titus, and members of the UMass Boston Athletics and Intramurals Department.
Following the morning brunch, the alumni stuck around to cheer on their Beacons, who were competing in their first meet of the new season. Throughout the afternoon UMass Boston showed the alumni what the program is all about, as numerous Beacons recorded top finishes against some of the top athletes in New England.
"I thought the event was a great success," said head track and field coach Consandria Walker. "The athletes really enjoyed talking with the alumni, and were excited to have them there to watch them compete. I am hoping that we can continue this new tradition and every time we do more and more alumni come out to support the track and field program," added Walker.
