NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – For the first time this season a total of four members of the UMass Boston track and field program have earned Little East Conference weekly honors for their respective teams. This week it was Samara Faustin (Boston, Mass.), Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.), Kebba Nasso (Attleboro, Mass.), and Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) who were recognized by the conference office.
Faustin earned her first Track Athlete of the Week honor after recording two second place finishes at Saturday's Bridgewater State University Bears Invitational. In the 100 meter dash she recorded a time of 12.45 seconds, while in the 200 meter dash she was clocked at 26.04 seconds. Her time two times qualified her for both the New England Open Championship meet and the ECAC Division III New England Championship.
Morales was also a first-time recipient of the conference's weekly honor program as he was named Track Athlete of the Week on Monday. At Bridgewater the junior sprinted his way into the UMass Boston record books as he set a new program best in the 110 meter hurdles. With a time of 15.46 seconds, Morales broke the original mark by nearly two seconds to finish in third place overall.
Another first-time honoree for track and field was Joseph who was named the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week. After a standout freshman season with the men's basketball program, Joseph quickly made his presence felt on the track. In his first collegiate meet, Joseph set the program record for the high jump with a leap of 6-05.00. Along with teammate Tylor Hart the two battled back and forth in Saturday's invitational, with Joseph earning the first place honor, with Hart finishing right behind him in second place.
For Nasso, his Rookie Track Athlete of the Week selection came after recording a first place finish in the 200 meter dash and a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash. In the 200 the Attleboro native qualified for the ECAC and New England Division III Championship meets with a time of 22.79 seconds. His time of 49.81 seconds in the 400 also qualified him for both championship meets as well.
