TROY, N.Y. – For the second time in as many months freshman high jumper Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) leaped his way to a championship, this time the Brockton native took gold at the 2012 ECAC Outdoor Championship meet with a height 6-09.00 on his way to helping the men's track and field team record a program best 11th place finish at the championship.
For Joseph his ticket to next week's national championship meet is all but booked for the freshman as he remains in the top-5 in the country in the high jump event. With a height of 6-10.25 feet, which he recorded at the Little East Conference Championship meet three weeks ago, Joseph will make his first appearance at nationals which are going to be held in Claremont, California starting on Thursday, May 24 and will run through Saturday, May 25.
Behind him in the event was Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) who posted a height of 6-07.00 feet to take third in the event. Also in action on Friday was Kebba Nasso (Attleboro, Mass.) who placed 3rd with a time of 48.56 seconds, which set a new program mark by two-hundredths of a second.
In the relay events, Brandon Couloute (Shelton, Mass.), Ervin Lofton (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.), and Nasso posted a time of 44.01 seconds in the 4x100 (27th), while in the 4x400 Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.), Morales, Couloute, and Nasso recorded a time of 3:22.42 (17th).
Yesterday afternoon Morales was the lone Beacon in action as he finished in 25th place in the 110 meter hurdles with his time of 18.19 seconds.
In the women's championship meet Samara Faustin (Boston, Mass.) placed 9th in the 100 meter dash as UMass Boston's lone competitor. The junior sprinter posted a time of 12.65 seconds. She would then record a time of 25.85 seconds to take 14th place in the 200 meter dash.
The Beacons will now wait to see who officially qualifies for the national championship meet on Sunday when the NCAA announces this year's field.
