Program Record Falls at Day Two of BU Terrier Classic
BOSTON, Mass. – On the second day of the Boston University Terrier Classic, the men's track and field team saw a total of 13 new personal bests set as well as one program record as they competed against some of the top athletes in Division I, II, and III track and field.
Setting the lone program record in Saturday's huge meet was senior Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) as he crossed the finish line with a time of 22.53 seconds in the 200 meter dash. Morales' time broke the original record set last season by seven hundredths of a second.
To start off the afternoon Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) hit a new personal best time in the 60 meter dash with a mark of 7.29 seconds. In the 200, Gustave also set a new personal best with a time of 22.84 seconds. Behind him it was Nick Silva (Fall River, Mass.) with a time of 23.14 seconds, which was also a new career best time.
Norbert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.), Jabari Coy-Gooding (Boston, Mass.), and Mohamed Fdal (Everett, Mass.) all set new personal bests in the 200 as well, with Simon earning a new time of 23.21, followed by Coy-Gooding who recorded a time of 24.57 seconds, and finally Fdal who crossed the finish line with a time of 25.43 seconds.
In the 500 meter dash three of the five Beacons that competed in the event also earned new personal bests. Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, Mass.) led the squad with his time of 1:10.18. After that Emilio Alvarez-Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) hit a new mark with a time of 1:11.93. Chhenlee Ly (Leominster, Mass.) was the next Beacon to earn a new personal best with his time of 1:13.66. Matthew Nardiello (Swampscott, Mass.) was the third UMB sprinter to earn a new career best time as he crossed the finish line with a time of 1:14.99. Chris Chapman (Brockton, Mass.) closed out the 500 with a time of 1:16.21.
Distance runners Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:56.94 in the 800 meter dash, while Tad Delaney (Halifax, Mass.) set a new personal best time in the one mile run with his final time of 4:50.01.
Moving into the field events, Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) closed out the high jump in ninth place with a height of 6-04.75 feet. Morales posted a top-25 finish in the long jump with a final mark of 19-09.75 feet.
In the triple jump Abdul recorded a 23rd place finish with his leap of 42-07.00 feet. Julian Hubbard (Windsor, Maine) recorded a new personal best in the event with a jump of 41-10.00 feet.
The shot put event had Christian Cabrera (Fall River, Mass.) finish in 40th with a toss of 39-08.50 feet. Behind him Jabari Woods (Randolph, Mass.) threw a new personal best with a final toss of 36-11.00 feet. Lenford Coote (Brooklyn, N.Y.) closed out Saturday's meet with a toss of 34-07.00 feet to earn 48th place overall.
The track and field teams return to action on February 9 when they compete at the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championship meet at Bridgewater State University.
