NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The honors continue to roll in for sophomore high jumper Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) as the now two-time All-American has become the first athlete in program history to be named the Little East Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.
The major award comes after one of the most impressive outdoor seasons ever recorded in both the history of UMass Boston men's outdoor track and field and in Little East Conference history.
The national leader for the entire 2013 outdoor season, Joseph smashed the program record in his first meet of the year with an unbelievable jump of 7-01.00 feet. He would later go on to record his second straight gold medal in the high jump at the Little East/New England Alliance Championship meet by breaking his record setting mark from his freshman season.
On the year, Joseph recorded a total of four first place finishes including defeating Division II and I high jumpers at the 49ers Classic in North Carolina with his career best height. He would also take top honors at the NCAA Division III New England Regional meet (6-09.75) and at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic (6-09.75).
Only the second Beacon to ever be named a two-time All-American, Joseph went on to finish in seventh place at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship meet in La Crosse, Wisconsin with his jump of 6-08.00 feet.
