Men’s Track and Field Has Strong Performances at Terrier Classic

BOSTON, Mass. – After yesterday's strong showing from the women's team, the men's squad kept pace on day two of the Boston University Terrier Classic as a total of 15 new personal bests were set.

The Beacons day got off to a great start as Joe Miller (Hull, Mass.) and Tad Delaney (Halifax, Mass.) both recorded new career bests in the 800 meter run.  Miller ended the heat with a time of 2:09.23, followed by Delaney who posted a time of 2:11.36.

Mohamed Fdal (Everett, Mass.) recorded the lone personal best in the 60 meter dash as he finished with a time of 7.94 seconds.  Nobert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.) notched a new best in the 400 meter dash with his new time of 52.65 seconds.  The 500 meter dash saw all five Beacons that competed in the event record new bests starting with Patrick Powell's (Dorchester, Mass.) time of 1:10.62.  From there it was Alvarez Missick (Boston, Mass.) who crossed the finish line with a time of 1:11.60.  Chhenlee Ly (Leominster, Mass.) recorded the third fastest time for UMass Boston with a time of 1:12.28.

Anthony Santiago (Chelsea, Mass.) and Ron Esquivel (Guatemala City, Guatemala) were the final two Beacons to compete in the event with Santiago posting a time of 1:16.08 followed by Esquivel who finished with a time of 1:17.09. 

In the 200 meter dash it was Kelly Desane (Cambridge, Mass.) who led a trio of Beacons to new personal bests.  Desane finished with a time of 23.40 seconds, followed by Christopher Sian-Aguirre's (Holbrook, Mass.) time of 24.12, then Fdal who recorded a time of 25.43.  Shawn Lawson led UMass Boston in the 200 with his time of 22.96 seconds.  Simon and Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) then recorded the second and third fastest times for the Beacons in the 200 with times of 23.33 and 23.49 seconds respectively.

Moving into the field events, Sian-Aguirre earned a new career best in the long jump with his leap of 18-07.00 feet.  Xavier Romero (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the event for UMass Boston with his jump of 20-03.50 feet which earned him 25th place overall.  Quang Le (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam) finished with the second best jump as he posted a distance of 18-10.50 feet.

Kervens Jean-Phillippe (Milton, Mass.) was the lone thrower on Saturday as he recorded a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 34-00.00 feet.  He would then earn an eighth place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 35-06.50 feet.

Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) managed a seventh place finish in the high jump with his leap of 6-06.75 feet, while Le closed out the triple jump with a new personal best of 40-11.00 feet.

In the 4x400 meter relay the Beacons had two teams earn times of 3:33.34 and 3:42.09 respectively.  Simon, Gustave, Lawson, and Powell recorded the fastest of the two times for UMass Boston, while Ly, Missick, Desane, and Sian-Aguirre recorded the other.

Track and Field returns to action on Friday when they compete at the Tufts University Stampede Classic.
