NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – After a strong showing at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.), Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.), and Taylor Smith (Burlington, Mass.) were recognized by the Little East Conference for their standout performances having earned their first weekly honors of the outdoor season.
For Joseph he leaped his way to his first Field Athlete of the Week honor after placing first in the high jump on Saturday. With a leap of 6-09.00 feet, he defeated his closest competitor by nearly two full inches.
McGuffie, sprinted her way to the Track Athlete of the Week award by finishing second in the 100 and first in the 200 meter dashes. The now two-time All-American finished the 100 with the fastest time recorded by a Division III sprinter as she crossed the finish line in 12.31 seconds. In the 200 she grabbed first place in dominating fashion with a time of 25.55 seconds, which was almost a full second ahead of the second place finish finisher.
Smith's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week accolade marks the first in the college career for the freshman. At Saturday's meet she won the discus throw with an impressive toss of 115-08 feet. She would also finish in the top-10 in the shot put with a throw of 34-11.75 feet.
