MIAMI, Fla. – In their first meet of the 2018 outdoor season, the men's track and field team competed against some top competition as they took part in the Miami University Hurricane Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dom Nda (Pittsfield, Mass.) came the closest to setting a new program record, as the senior All-American registered a final time of 10.67 seconds, which was .01 seconds away from matching his program mark. That time also earned the Pittsfield native a 10th place finish overall. Bless Amedoadzi (Boston, Mass.) also competed in the 100 and finished with a time of 11.08 seconds, while Garth Miriyoga (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Stefan Powell (Hyde Park, Mass.) each registered times of 11.13 and 11.14 seconds respectively.
All four sprinters also competed in the 4x100-meter relay and finished with a time of 42.09 seconds to finish in fifth place. They also competed in the 200-meter dash, with Nda leading the squad with a time of 22.35 seconds. Behind him was Miriyoga (22.74), Powell (22.86), and Amedoadzi (23.22). In the 400-meter dash, Virgil Harrell III (Hamden, Conn.) recorded a team-best time of 50.63 seconds to lead a trio of sprinters. Adrian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) also competed in the 400 as he tripped the sensor with a time of 51.21, followed by Ricardo Maldonado (Revere, Mass.) who finished with a time of 53.84. Maldonado also finished in seventh place in the javelin throw with a distance of 154-06 feet.
Distance runner William Barrett (Everett, Mass.) recorded a time of 2:04.60 in the 800-meter run, while in the 1,500 he posted a time of 4:22.25. Jimmy Cannon (Quincy, Mass.) also competed in the 1,500 and finished with a time of 4:23.21.
Julian Collins (Asheville, N.C.) recorded a distance of 106-11 feet in the discus and 134-03 in the hammer throw.
The Beacons will be back in action next Saturday when they compete at the Bridgewater State University Invitational.
