Cross-Country Competes at LEC/NE Alliance Championships
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Led by Xhulio Uruci the University of Massachusetts Boston cross country placed 6th and 10th respectively at the 2011 Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championship meet Saturday afternoon at UMass Dartmouth.
Running his way to an individual title was Kevin Hoyt of Keene State College, whose time of 24:50 earned him the top spot in both championship meets. The University of Southern Maine went on to claim the both the Little East Conference and New England Alliance title.
On the afternoon, Uruci recorded a final time of 26:32 to finish in 14th place in the LEC championship and 20th place in the NE Alliance. Behind him was Jake Kerin who earned 29th and 48th place respectively with his final time of 27:46.
Grant Shackelford and Hamza Abdul-Kadir closed out Saturday's meet right next to each other, as Shackelford posted a 45/94th place finish with a time of 29:34. Abdul-Kadir earned a 46/95th place finish with his final time of 29:35.
Andrew Freda was next to cross the finish line for the Beacons as she recorded a 55th/123rd place finish with his time of 31:05. After that it was Ming Wang in 56/127th place with a time of 31:38.
Jeff Laurore (58/139 - 33:54), Christopher Chapman (59/141 - 34:38), and Norbert Simmons (62/147 - 35:28) closed out Saturday's championship meet for UMass.
Cross-country returns to action next Saturday when they compete in the ECAC New England Championship meet.
