NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – After a three week hiatus from competition the men's and women's cross country teams returned to action as they took part in the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational Saturday afternoon.
For the men's team, the Beacons finished in 23rd place, while the women's team recorded their second straight team score finishing in 24th place overall.
Once again at the front of the pack for the Beacons was senior runner Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) who recorded a time of 27:52 to finish in 61st place overall. For the women's squad it was Angelica Pizzi (Milton, Mass.) leading the Beacons with her 62nd place finish and a time of 20:29.
Back on the men's team Tad Delaney (Halifax, Mass.) was the next Beacon to cross the finish line with a time of 28:18 (75th). Joe Miller (Hull, Mass.) earned the third fastest time for UMB as he finished in 186th place with a time of 33:33. Ronald Esquivel (Guatemala) was right behind Miller and finished with a time of 34:00 to earn 188th place. Chhenlee Ly (Leominster, Mass.) and Alvarez Missick (Boston, Mass.) closed out the day for the men's team with their times of 34:54 and 39:35 respectively.
After Pizzi, it was senior Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) who recorded the second fastest time for the women's squad as she crossed the finish line with a time of 23:20 to earn 162nd place overall. Ashley Glendye (Middleboro, Mass.) notched a 176th place finish after recording a final time of 25:25. Danielle Valeri (Leominster, Mass.) was on the heals of her teammate for most of the race and went on to finish with a time of 25:48.
Sprinter turned distance runner in the fall, senior Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) recorded a time of 25:53 to earn a 184th place finish for UMB. Closing out the day for the women's team was Ashley Cahill (Spencer, Mass.) with her time of 33:31.
Cross Country returns to action on Saturday when they compete at the 45th/33rd Annual Codfish Bowl Cross Country Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston. Start time for the two meets is scheduled for 11 a.m.
