NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Boston freshman center Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, Mass.) was selected to the D3Hoops.com Women's Basketball Team of the Week this evening. Morrison averaged 21.7 points and 10 rebounds to become the third Little East women's basketball player to earn a spot on the five-person national team this season.
Morrison continued to dominate the low blocks this past week to help the Beacons post a 2-1 week and earn the sixth and final seed in the upcoming Little East Women's Basketball tournament. The freshman center from North Reading, Mass. recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds against intra-state rival UMass Dartmouth. Two days later, she scored 22 points and hauled in nine boards in a win at Suffolk University. On Feb. 18, Morrison closed out UMass Boston's regular-season with a 23-point, nine-rebound performance against Eastern Connecticut to clinch the final spot in the six-team tournament field.
A starter in 21 of her 24 appearances, Morrison is tied atop the Little East individual standings in double-doubles (13), while ranking among the leaders in scoring (2nd, 17.0 ppg), blocked shots (3rd, 1.63 bpg), rebounding (3rd, 10.0 rpg), and minutes played (6th, 32.21). The freshman has reached double digits in scoring 21 times, including scoring at least eight times. Morrison poured in a season-best 31 points at Eastern Connecticut on Jan. 14. She pulled in a season-high 16 boards in a key conference victory at Plymouth State on Feb. 11. Morrison has been named the Little East Rookie of the Week in five of the 12 times it was bestowed.
