HENNIKER, N.H. - UMass-Boston women's basketball guard Kendra Mosley (Indian Head, Md.) scored a game-high 30 points on 12-for-18 shooting leading the Beacons past the New England College Pilgrims 74-52 Sunday afternoon.
With the win the Beacons improve to 4-1 overall, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 2-4 on the season.
UMass-Boston would sink the first bucket of the game and quickly build an eight point lead up 17-9 midway through the opening half. NEC would battle back though as the Pilgrims would grab their first lead of the afternoon up 25-24 with 3:01 remaining on the clock. The Beacons would respond using a 7-0 run and closing out the half outscoring the Pilgrims 9-3 to head into halftime with the 34-28 advantage.
NEC would keep UMass-Boston close in the opening minutes of the second half before the Beacons would explode on an 11-0 run and go up 56-40 with 10:26 remaining in the game. The Beacons would shoot an impressive 48% from the floor and 56% from three-point range in the second half eventually leading them to the 74-52 victory.
The Beacons would finish the game out rebounding the Pilgrims 37-22 and posted 11 second chance points.
UMass-Boston's Colleen Hooper (Mansfield, Mass.) was the only other Beacon in double figures finishing with 12 points. Molly Rattigan grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, while Cammy Brown (Malden, Mass.) and Shelby Buck (Greenfield, Ohio) each chipped in eight points for the Beacons.
Leading the way for NEC was Rachel Williams (Chapel Hill, N.C.) who finished with a team-high 18 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kate Levy (Woods Hole, Mass.) and Carlin Hood (Windsor, Vt.) each chipped in eight points for the Pilgrims.
NEC returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 30 when they host Southern Vermont University. UMass-Boston hits the court on Thursday, Dec. 2 when they host non-conference foe Wheelock College.
