Coro was 6-15 shooting from the floor, and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe to lead all scorers. Senior guard Michelle McNamee (Cranston, RI) was the only other RIC player to crack double digits, dropping 14 points in 29 minutes of action.
Coro converted a layup with 9:53 remaining in the first half of play to put the Anchorwomen ahead for good, 15-13. The field goal sparked a 22-6 run for RIC that took place over the next 7:37 before freshman forward Molly Piette (Webster, MA) swooshed a trifecta for the Beacons at the 2:14 mark to cut the lead to 35-22, a score that would remain the same heading into halftime.
A Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, MA) layup with 16:38 remaining in the second half pulled UMB to within 11 points at 37-26, but the Anchorwomen would then go on a 14-6 run capped by a Jenn Knott layup at the 11:23 mark to give RIC a 51-30 lead, its largest of the game.
The Beacons would not quit and used strong defense and some sharp shooting to go on their own run to pull them back into the contest. From the 10:18 mark until 6:34 remained in the second half, UMB outscored RIC 16-2, cutting the deficit to seven points. The run was capped by a three point field goal by freshman swing -player Evyn Gregory-Stewart (Leonia, NJ).
After a layup with 3:50 left to play by junior forward Ashley Abrahamson (Raynham, MA), RIC regained an 11-point advantage. Once again, the Beacons fought to keep the game within reach and rolled off seven straight points capped by two made free throws with 1:15 left to play by sophomore guard Norma Cumbee (Malden, MA) to make the score 57-53, in favor of the visitors. The four-point margin was the closest the Beacons would get as RIC was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line in closing minute to seal the deal for the Anchorwomen.
Abrahamson ended the day with six points and a game high of 11 rebounds while Cumbee finished the afternoon with 15 points and was the only Beacon in double figures.
