HOOPER NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's basketball player Colleen Hooper (Mansfield, MA) has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of November 29 through December 5, it was announced today by the conference. It is the second consecutive week that a UMass Boston player has received the honor as freshman guard Kendra Mosley was also recognized last week for the feat.
Hooper put together the best all-around week of her young collegiate career, averaging 15 points, five rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. She registered a game-high 20 points during a 72-42 win vs. Wheelock as well as 10 points in the Beacons 57-55 overtime victory over Little East foe Keene State College. Against the Wildcats, the Mansfield, MA native was on fire in the first half, connecting on eight of nine shots from the floor for 19 points.
Through the first three weeks of the 2010-11 campaign, the 5'8" shooting guard has been a solid contributor for UMass Boston, averaging 12.4 points per game to rank second on the squad. She leads the team in field goals made with 33 and boasts a .384 shooting percentage. Hooper is currently among the league leaders in several three-point shooting categories including ranking fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.371), tied for fifth in total three-point field goals made (13) and tied for sixth in three-point field goals made per game (1.9).
UMass Boston is currently 6-1 on the year to match the program's best start since the 2002-03 season. The Beacons have already surpassed last seasons' win total and are currently holding opponents to an average of 48.6 points to rank second in the Little East Conference. UMass Boston will be in action again on Thursday, Dec. 7 when it travels Mount Ida College for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference match-up.
