HOLYOKE, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's basketball player Kendra Mosley (Indian Head, MD) has been named the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week for the week of November 29 through December 5, it was announced today by the NEWBA. Mosley was also named last week's Little East Conference Rookie of the Week.
Mosley had another great week, averaging 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game to help the Beacons go 2-0 on the week. The Indian Head, MD native was instrumental in UMass Boston's 57-55 overtime victory over Keene State College, netting a game-high 21 points including 11 points in the overtime session as well as grabbing 11 rebounds for a double-double. Earlier in the week against Wheelock College, the guard also registered 13 points, four steals and four assists in the 72-42 home victory.
In the early goings of the 2010-11 campaign, the 5'7" guard has been very consistent for UMass Boston, averaging a team-high 13.3 points per game to go along with 8.6 rebounds per night, ranking second on the squad and fifth in the Little East Conference. She currently leads the conference in steals, averaging 3.6 per game and ranks first on the Beacons and eighth in the LEC with 3.1 assists per contest and has started all seven games of her collegiate career.
UMass Boston is currently 6-1 on the year to match the program's best start since the 2002-03 season. The Beacons have already surpassed last seasons' win total and are currently holding opponents to an average of 48.6 points to rank second in the Little East Conference. UMass Boston will be in action again on Thursday, Dec. 7 when it travels Mount Ida College for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference match-up.
