GORHAM, Me. – With a lone power-play goal from Julia Pearl the Huskies of Southern Maine (5-9-3, 5-4-1 ECAC East) were able to skate away with a 1-0 over women's hockey (6-8-2, 4-6-1 ECAC East) Saturday afternoon at USM Ice Arena in an ECAC East conference match-up.
Pearl's goal, her sixth of the season, put the Huskies on the scoreboard at the 5:37 mark in the second period. It was in that frame that the Huskies outshot the Beacons 11-5. On the day, both teams recorded a combined 20 shots.
Assisting on the game-winner for Southern Maine was Courtney White and Alex Smith.
Between the pipes, senior Leah Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn.) recorded 19 stops, while her Southern Maine counterpart Liz Bergstrom managed 20 saves to earn her fifth win of the season.
On the power-play, UMass Boston was 0-for-5, while the Huskies went 1-for-6 in the contest.
Women's hockey returns to action on Friday when they travel to Nichols College for a 7:40 p.m. ECAC East conference game.
