WATERVILLE, Maine – A pair of shorthanded goals in the third period proved to be the deciding factors as Colby College handed women's hockey a 4-1 non-conference loss Saturday evening in the final game of 2017 for the Beacons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The host Mules controlled the scoreboard from start to finish in Saturday's contest. Lily Santonelli netted the first goal of the night less than four minutes into the opening frame.
In the second frame, Colby extended their lead to two, but with a goal by Emily Harris (Littleton, Colo.) the Beacons were quickly back in the game. Harris' goal was unassisted and just over one minute after the Mules second score of the contest.
The Mules would continue to pressure the Beacons defense as they outshot UMB 16-4 over the second frame. In the third and final period, Colby secured the victory with a pair of shorthanded goals by Moira Mullaney, both of which were unassisted.
On the night Rachel Myette (Duxbury, Mass.) made 36 saves as she was handed the tough non-conference loss. Cierra San Roman had to make just 19 stops to lead the Mules to their third win of the season.
