Box Score

BOSTON, MA - Junior forward Brigitte Cellino (Buffalo, NY) netted the game's lone goal and freshman goaltender Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, TN) made it stand up, making 19 saves to earn the shutout victory as the Trinity College women's ice hockey defeated host University of Massachusetts Boston, 1-0, to capture the championship of the Fourth Annual Women's Codfish Bowl this afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston. The Bantam win their fourth consecutive Women's Codfish Bowl in as many appearances and improve to 7-1-1 on the season, while the Beacons, fall to 5-6-0 on the year.

After a scoreless first period, Cellino's game-winner came early in the second period to help seal the Bantam victory. Freshman forward Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, MN) fired off a shot the ricocheted off the nearside post, past UMass Boston junior goaltender Leah Hallett (Rocky Hill, CT). Cellino collected the rebound and calmly potted her first goal of the season to put Trinity on top 1-0 with 16:30 to play in the middle stanza.

Following the Trinity goal, UMass Boston had several chances in the second period with the help of two Bantam penalties, but the visitors were able to kill both penalties and skate into the final session with the 1-0 lead.

In a last chance scoring effort, the Beacons pulled Hallett for the final 2:02 of regulation to gain the extra skater advantage but the Bantams held strong behind Maxwell in net to hang on for the 1-0 win.

On the afternoon, both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play while Trinity held a 25-19 shots advantage.

Hallett finished the game with 24 saves and made her 1,700 career save midway through the first period of play. Maxwell improves to 3-1-0 on the year, notching her first collegiate shutout.

The Beacons are idle until Friday, January 14 when they head to Plymouth, NH to face Plymouth State University in an ECAC East match-up at 7:00 p.m. while the Bantams will be back in action on Friday, January 7 when they host Williams College in a NESCAC contest starting at 7:00 p.m.
