BOSTON, MA - Sophomore goaltender Leah Hallett (Rocky Hill, CT) stopped 40 shots to earn her fourth career shutout and junior forward Lauren Duran (Woburn, MA) scored the game's only goal with 1:14 left in the second period to give the University of Massachusetts Boston women's ice hockey team a 1-0 victory over visiting Connecticut College this afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center rink on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons win their fifth straight contest to improve to 12-7-0 overall, while the Camels fall to 4-11-2.
UMass Boston's win streak is the second longest in school history and the longest since it won seven straight games from January 28 to February 10 in 2007.
Junior defenseman Jazz Webber's (Winslow, ME) shot was deflected off to the right crease, where Duran picked up the rebound for the eventual game-winner at 18:46 of the middle period on the Beacons' power play. It was Duran's ninth tally of the season and fourth game-winner of the campaign.
Connecticut College dominated the shots, winning every period, including the first period by a margin of 14-4 and the third period by a tally of 16-4 for a game total of 40 to 18.
Hallett now has 587 saves for the season for the second-highest total in UMass Boston history. Senior goalie Sara Christopher (Andover, MA) made 17 saves for the Camels and played all but the final 3:22 of the contest, before she was pulled for an extra skater.
The Beacons will be in action again tomorrow when they take on visiting Saint Michael's College in an Eastern College Athletic Conference match-up at 1:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center, while Connecticut College hosts Castleton State College on January 31 at 7:00 p.m.
