WATERVILLE VALLEY, NH - Junior Maria Nasta (Andover, MA) and sophomore Lauren Duran (Woburn, MA) combined to register four goals and five assists Friday evening as the University of Massachusetts Boston women's ice hockey team skated past Plymouth State University, 8-0, in an ECAC Women's East Conference ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Arena.
Nasta recorded a personal-high five points on two goals and three assists, while Duran tallied four points on a pair of goals and two assists. They helped the Beacons win their third straight game and improve to 11-8-2 overall and 10-5-2 in the ECAC East. PSU remains winless through 19 contests.
Senior goalie Jessica Sams (Bellingham, MA) made 11 saves for UMass Boston to record her first career shutout in her first appearance of the season. PSU senior Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, MA) made 54 saves, her sixth 50-plus save effort of the season as the Beacons dominated with a 62-11 shot advantage.
Nasta opened the scoring for UMB with a short-handed goal early in the first period. Sophomore Kristen Smith (Beavercreek, OH) and Duran followed to make it a 3-0 game after one frame. Duran made it 4-0 at 12:55 of the second with her team-leading 17th goal of the campaign and sophomore Hannah Davis (Oakdale, MN) added a power play goal in the last minute of the period to give the Beacons a school-record 29 power play goals on the season and put them up 5-0.
UMass Boston rounded out the scoring in the third period with a pair of goals by sophomore Jazz Webber (Winslow, ME)sandwiched around a goal by Nasta. Both of Webber's career-high two goals came on the power play.
PSU plays its final home game of the season on Saturday, hosting Nichols College on Senior Day at Waterville Valley (2:00 p.m.) UMB continues its weekend road trip Saturday with a visit to the University of Southern Maine for a 2:00 p.m. face-off.
