CENTERVILLE, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's ice hockey player Kelly Gillis (Northford, CT) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference East Rookie of the Week for the week of February 2-8, it was announced today by the conference. The award marks the second time this season that Gillis has earned the honor. She was also the league's top rookie of the week of November 24-30.

The freshman tallied four points on two goals and a pair of assists in two games for the Beacons. Gillis netted the game-winning goal in UMass Boston's 4-1 victory at MIT on February 3 and matched her career-high just three days later with three points on a goal and two assists vs. MIT on February 6 in an 8-2 win.

The forward has been the top-scoring freshman for the Beacons all season, leading the team's rookies in points (15), goals (10) and assists (5). Her goal-total is the third-highest for UMass Boston and ranks her 15th in ECAC East, while five of those have resulted in game-winners to tie the school-record at UMB and rank her third in all of NCAA Division III. The North Branford High School product also has three power play tallies on the year to rank 20th among ECAC East players, while her point total puts her 10th among all freshman in ECAC East. Gillis currently enjoys a three-game point-scoring streak with five points during that time and is the second streak of three or more games on the season for the rookie. She also put together a five-game point streak from November 16 to December 6 and racked up seven points during the stretch. A former member of the Connecticut Polar Bears junior hockey team, Gillis' goal-total is the fourth-highest in a season for a freshman in school history.

UMass Boston is currently 10-8-2 on the season, including 9-5-2 in league play. The Beacons will be in action again on Friday, February 13 when they travel to Plymouth, NH to take on ECAC East foe Plymouth State University at 6:00 p.m.
