DURAN NAMED ECAC EAST WOMEN'S ICE HOKCEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CENTERVILLE, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's ice hockey player Lauren Duran (Woburn, MA) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference East Player of the Week for the week of November 3-9, it was announced today by the conference. It marks the second time in her career that she has earned the honor.

Duran busted out of the gate for the Beacons, racking up five points on four goals and an assist in two games in the team's season-opening weekend. The sophomore netted a pair of goals and added an assist in UMass Boston's 6-1 victory over Nichols College on November 7 to open the season and came back the next day to pot two more goals, including the game-winner vs. Salve Regina in a 5-4 UMB win.

The forward is currently tied for first in the nation in goals per game with 2.0 and third in points per outing with 2.5. The Woburn High School product leads the Beacons with a pair of multi-goal efforts on the season and is tops in total goals and second in total points.

For her career, Duran has seen action in 28 games and tallied 26 points on 14 goals and 12 assists. She became a tremendous offensive weapon after moving to the forward position midway through last season. She has seven multi-point games in her career to rank seventh on UMass Boston's career list and her two multi-goal performances last week give her four for her tenure at UMB. Her career goal-total ranks her ninth on the Beacons' all-time list. A former member of the Chelmsford Lions junior hockey team, she was named the ECAC East Player of the Week for the week of January 14-20, 2008 and was tabbed the league Rookie of the Week for the week of February 11-17, 2008.

UMass Boston is currently 2-0-0 overall and in ECAC East play to tie for first place in the league and division standings and has won its first two games to open the season for the first time since the inaugural 2003-04 campaign. The Beacons will be in action again when they travel to Rye, NY to take on ECAC East Division A rival Manhattanville College at the Playland Ice Casino at 7:00 p.m.
