GILLIS NAMED ECAC EAST WOMEN'S HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

CENTERVILLE, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's ice hockey player Kelly Gillis (Northford, CT) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference East Rookie of the Week for the week of November 24-30, it was announced today by the conference.
Gillis registered a goal in the Beacons' only game of the week, cracking the scoring column first in a 4-3 victory at Connecticut College on November 25.
The freshman forward has been UMass Boston's best offensive rookie thus far, placing second on the squad with four goals and fourth with six points. She is one of three UMB players with a game-winning score and is tied for 15th in the nation and seventh in ECAC East in that category, while placing 10th among the nation's rookies with 1.00 points per contest and seventh among ECAC East freshman. A graduate of North Branford High School, Gillis' goal total ranks her 17th among league leaders and her effectiveness on the power play is evident by her three points, which puts her 15th in the league, while her power play goal ranks her 14th in ECAC East. A product of the Connecticut Polar Bears, she has notched at least one point in four of six outings, including a career-high three points with the game-winning goal and two assists in the Beacons' 7-3 victory over Saint Anselm College on November 18.
UMass Boston is currently 4-1-1 on the season for its best start since it began the program's inaugural campaign in 2003-04 with a 5-1-0 mark. The Beacons will be in action again when they host Castleton State College on Friday, December 5 at 4:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center.
