Women's Soccer Looking To Begin a New Chapter in 2017

BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Boston women's soccer is looking to regain their place as one of the premiere programs in New England this fall, as they announced their 2017 season schedule.

The Beacons will once again have another very challenging schedule facing teams from the NESCAC, NEWMAC, MASCAC, NEAC, NECC, GNAC, and the CCC.  UMB will also play their first home, non-conference regular season contests in over two years as they take on local opponents Wentworth Institute of Technology and Bridgewater State University.

UMass Boston's 2017 campaign will begin on Friday September 1 when they travel to Providence, RI for a 6 p.m. contest against Johnson & Wales University.  That contest will mark the start of a 10-game road trip, as the Beacons will have only one home game in the month of September.

After their match-up with the Wildcats, UMB will face first time opponent Elms College on Monday, the fourth at 7 p.m.  Their biggest test of the year will then occur on the sixth when they travel to Connecticut to take on NESCAC rival Wesleyan University.  On Saturday, September 9 the Beacons will face Roger Williams University, before taking on Babson College on the 13th

The Beacons will begin their 2017 LEC schedule on September 16 at Keene State College.  The final four matches of the Beacons very long road trip will consist of stops at Emmanuel College (9/20, 7 p.m.), Plymouth State University (9/23, 1:30 p.m.), Salem State University (9/26, 7 p.m.), and Curry College (9/28, 6:30 p.m.).

UMB will finally get a chance to play in front of their home crowd on September 30 when they take on Rhode Island College at 4 p.m. on the soccer field, located behind Monan Park.  James Cotter Field will be undergoing some major turf renovation for the final two weeks of September and first two weeks of October.

Unlike the month of September, the Beacons will get four chances to wear their home whites.  Their first home match in October will take place on the fourth, when they take on Wentworth Institute at 4 p.m.  After a trip to Southern Maine on 10/7 and a trip to Colby Sawyer on 10/11, the Beacons will host intra-state rival UMass Dartmouth on 10/14 at 4 p.m. on the Monan Park soccer field.

The Beacons will then play two more road matches, the first at Framingham State University on 10/17, followed by a trip to Mansfield, CT to face Eastern Connecticut State University on 10/20.  From there UMB will end their 2017 regular season with a home match against Bridgewater State University at 7 p.m. in James Cotter Stadium, on the brand-new turf playing field, followed by a match against Western Connecticut State University on 10/28 at 4 p.m.

The LEC Tournament will begin on October 31 with the quarterfinal round.  This year's semi-finals and championship matches will take place on November 2 and 4 respectively.
