UMASS BOSTON WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO WESTFIELD STATE IN SEASON OPENER, 4-1

BANGOR, ME - In the first game of the Husson University Classic the Owls of Westfield State flew past the University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons. The Owls scored the first four goals of the game on their way to a 4-1 victory.
The Owls outshot the Beacons 28-3. Jill Ranney (Southwick, MA) struck first for the Owls scoring a goal with 5:35 left in the first half. Nine minutes into the second half Westfield's Kim Martel (Littleton, MA) scored from an Anna Hart (Paxton, MA) pass to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. Ali Pease (So. Ludlow, MA) put the Owls ahead by three scoring an unassisted goal with 21:28 left in the game. Susie Lachowski (Sutton, MA) added a goal off a corner kick pass from Kate MacLellan (So. Wilbraham, MA). Freshman defender Samantha Place (Newton, NJ) got the Beacons on the board with her first collegiate goals coming with 8:03 left in the game, assisted by classmate Molly Kuchar (Ashville, NC). Jess Pieciak (Three Rivers, MA) only saw one shot and saved it for the Owls. Brittany Beeman (Springfield, MA) had no saves on two shots for Westfield. For the Beacons sophomore keeper Ashley McRoberts (Merrimack, NH) made 13 saves on 28 shots.
