BOSTON, MA - Sophomore midfielder Taylor Buchanan (Ellington, CT) scored three goals to lead Eastern Connecticut State University to a 3-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer team today at the Clark Athletic Center field on the campus of UMass Boston. The loss drops the Beacons record to 6-2-3 overall and 2-1 in the Little East Conference, while the Warriors remain unbeaten at 9-0-1 and 3-0 in the LEC.
Buchanan gave Eastern Connecticut State the lead 20:40 into the match when sophomore forward Daniela Marchitto (Orange, CT) tapped the ball to her off an indirect kick and Buchanan's shot deflected off Beacons junior defender Samantha Place (Newton, NJ) and into the net. Buchanan added an insurance goal at the 54:08 mark when she lofted a shot from outside of the 18-yard box into the back left of the net. Her third tally came at 64:30 when she dribbled into the 6-yard box alone and beat freshman keeper Katie Coscia (Pittsfield, MA).
The Beacons' Coscia made eight saves on 14 shots. For the Warriors, junior keeper Theresa Pagnozzi (Waterford, CT) pitched the shutout with five saves in the match.
UMass Boston managed just 10 shots but two of the attempts in the first half from freshman forward Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, MA) hit the crossbar.
