Box Score

BUZZARDS BAY, MA - Freshman forward Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, MA) scored a pair of second half goals to snap a 1-1 tie and lift the University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer team to a 3-1 non-league victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium. The win lifts the Beacons to 9-4-3 overall while the loss drops the Buccaneers to 3-8 on the campaign.

Andrews gave UMass Boston the lead for good just 3:13 after intermission with an unassisted marker, and she provided an insurance tally, her team-leading 14th of the season, with 2:15 to play on a feed from fellow freshman midfielder Samantha Cristoforo (Rockland, MA).

Freshman Lauren Salem (Westfield, MA) had given the host Buccaneers an early 1-0 advantage just 9:24 into the match when she converted a pass from junior Nicole Newell (Plymouth, MA) for her fourth goal of the season, but senior midfielder Nicki Finamore (Weymouth, MA) evened matters for UMass Boston in the 35th minute with her second marker of the season, an unassisted goal that deflected off a defender in front, setting up Andrews' second half heroics.

The multi-goal effort by Andrews is the sixth outing this season that the rookie has netted two goals in a match, tying Shannon Murphy's program record from the 1997 season. She currently has 31 points on the year which ranks third all-time.

Freshman goalkeeper Katie Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) picked up her ninth win of the season in goal for UMass Boston by making one first half save, while sophomore Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, MA) made 10 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Beacons outshot the Buccaneers by a 24-4 margin for the contest, including a 10-1 second half advantage.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 12:00 p.m., while UMass Boston entertains Plymouth State in a Little East Conference clash at Clark Center Field in Boston on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
