Fitchburg State Edges Women's Soccer in Overtime

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Less than two minutes into the first overtime period an unassisted goal from Fitchburg State’s Carissa Kennedy would push the Falcons (6-1) to a 1-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston women’s soccer (3-3) team, Tuesday evening at Elliot Field.

Kennedy’s goal, her sixth of the season, was scored at 91:16 after a deadlocked first and second half of play.  Through the first 90 minutes, the Beacons held a 14-9 advantage in shots and 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Both teams managed just one shot in the overtime period, with the Falcons unfortunately connecting in the opening two minutes on their lone attempt.  For the Beacons, freshman forward Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, MA) came off the bench to lead the team with three shots on goal.

Julienne McCuish (Mashpee, MA), Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, MA), and Molly Kuchar (Asheville, NC) each got off two shots on goal to add to the Beacons offense.  The Falcons were held to just five shots on goal, with Kennedy and Kimberly Carroll each totaling two on the night.

In goal Dani Perkins (Murrieta, CA) came-up huge for the Beacons especially in the closing minutes of the second half.  The freshman combined for four saves, while Fitchburg’s Jillian Kirouac totaled 10 saves.
