NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer player Katherine Wall (Arlington, MA) has been named Little East Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for her play during the week of September 15-21, it was announced today by the conference.
Wall was outstanding in the Beacons' only match of the week at Rhode Island College on September 20, shutting down the Anchorwomen's top offensive threats in a 2-0 shutout victory for UMass Boston. The victory was the Beacons first over a conference opponent since September 28, 1995 when UMass Boston defeated Rhode Island College, 1-0, in Providence, RI.
The sweeper has played in four of six matches, this season, starting all of them.
An Arlington High School graduate, Wall was a captain as both a sophomore and junior for the Beacons and currently ranks fifth in the program's all-time games played list with 53. The defender has seen time as a midfielder during her career as well and stands fifth on the career points list with 22, including six assists and eight goals to put her in fourth place and sixth place, respectively, among UMB's career leaders.
UMass Boston is 2-4-0 overall, including 1-0-0 to tie for first place in the LEC standings and will be in action again on Tuesday, September 23 when it hosts Fitchburg State College at 3:30 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center Field.
