Oct. 12, 2009

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer player Brittney Spencer (West Brookfield, MA) has been named Little East Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for her play during the week of October 5-11, it was announced today by the conference office. She becomes the second Beacons' player to be named the league's top rookie this season. Freshman Anna O'Donoghue (Swansea, MA) also received the honor for the week of September 14-20.

Spencer tallied three points on a goal and an assist in a pair of matches. The freshman netted her first collegiate goal and added an assist in UMass Boston's 10-0 victory over visiting Newbury College on October 6.

For the season, Spencer has seen action in 11 matches and leads all Beacons' freshmen with five points on a goal and three assists, while placing sixth among all UMass Boston players. The midfielder's assist total ranks her ninth among conference leaders as well. The Saint Peter Marian High School product collected her first career points earlier this season when she tallied a pair of assists vs. Wheelock College on September 15 for the second-highest helper total by any player in school history.

The Beacons currently own a school-record nine-match unbeaten streak and are 9-2-1 on the season, including 3-0-1 in Little East Conference play to stand second in the league standings. UMass Boston will be in action again on Saturday, October 17 when it travels to Keene, NH for a showdown with the league's first place team, Keene State College, at 1:00 p.m.
