Oct. 21, 2008

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer player Kristin Mulry (Holbrook, MA) has been named Little East Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for her play during the week of October 13-19, it was announced today by the conference office. Mulry has been selected for the award a league-high three times this season and for the second straight week. Her honor marks the fifth time in seven weeks that a UMB player has been named the top rookie. Freshman midfielder Molly Kuchar (Ashville, NC) was tabbed for the week of September 1-7, Mulry was the top rookie for the weeks of September 22-28 and October 6-12 and freshman defender Samantha Place (Newton, NJ) was the top rookie choice for the week of September 29 to October 5.

Mulry netted a pair of goals in three matches for four points on the week. The freshman tallied both of her scores at Emerson College on October 14 for the Beacons.

The forward ranks second in the conference in total points with 22 and goals with 11, while owning a .297 shot percentage to lead UMass Boston players with seven or more shots taken. Her goal-total is the most in a season for a freshman at UMB in school history and the third-highest for any UMass Boston player in a season. A graduate of Hingham High School, she has one game-winning goal on the year to tie for the team-lead and has started six of 15 matches. She has been an extremely reliable goal-scorer over the past nine matches, having scored at least one goal in six of them and has netted at least one goal in seven matches on the year, including three with two or more.

The Beacons are currently 5-9-1 on the season, including a 2-2-1 mark in Little East Conference play to place them fourth in the LEC standings. UMass Boston will be in action again on Wednesday, October 22 when it travels to Buzzards Bay, MA to take on Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a 4:00 p.m. match.
