Sue Killilea Named Little East Conference Player of the Week For First Time
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—For the first time in her historic career, UMass Boston senior catcher Sue Killilea (Abington, Mass.) has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The two-time First Team selection was named the LEC Rookie of the Week twice as a freshman and becomes the first Beacon to earn the award since Maria Nasta ('12) in March of 2011.
Killilea hit .462 (6-for-13) with a double, three triples, five runs and three runs batted in to help UMB open its season with a 2-2 week. Most impressively, Killilea's three triples brought her career total to 28, which is tied for 15th in Division III softball history.
She hit safely in three of four games to open the season, including recording multiple hits in both ends of the Beacons' season-opening doubleheader.
Defensively, Killilea recorded 17 putouts and added three assists, including picking off a Bates College baserunner at third base, with the bases loaded and two outs in a close game.
