O'CONNOR NAMED TO LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE SOFTBALL FIRST TEAM

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston softball player Lauren O'Connor (Everett, MA) was named to the Little East Conference First Team as a third baseman, it was announced today by the league. The senior capped an impressive career by hitting .352 (32-91) in her final season. She began the season slowly, but hit a torrid .478 (22-46) over her final 15 games. O'Connor ranked 15th in the league in batting average and led the Beacons with eight doubles to place 12th among LEC leaders and rank 10th on the team's single-season all-time list. She ranked second for UMB with 25 runs scored, 32 hits, 45 total bases, 13 walks and a .425 on-base percentage. The third baseman was also among the league leaders in walks (11th), runs (14th) and on-base percentage (14th) and her total for runs scored was the fifth most in a season in UMass Boston history, while her bases on balls total ranks fourth all-time for a campaign. She was busy at the hot corner, recording the fourth-highest assist total in school history with 68, which was good for eighth in the Little East Conference. The Everett High School product put together the team's longest hitting streak, reaching safely in eight straight games from April 2-18, while maintaining an eye-popping .615 (16-26) batting mark during the stretch. O'Connor hit safely in 21 of 31 games and was second on the squad with nine multi-hit efforts, including a string of five straight games with two or more hits from April 4-14, where she hit a blistering .667 (12-18). She struck out just 12 times in 106 plate appearances and went 29 plate appearances without a whiff from March 28 to April 14. O'Connor finishes her athletic career after playing four seasons of ice hockey, two seasons of tennis and three softball campaigns and will go down in history as one of the Beacons' best hitters with a .360 (93-258) career batting mark to place third all-time, while ranking eighth in games played with 90. She stands fifth on the career list with 93 hits, 141 total bases and a .547 slugging percentage, while ranking third with 59 runs batted in, fourth with 24 doubles, sixth with 22 bases on balls, seventh with six triples and 10th with 49 runs scored as well as 10th in fielding assists with 117. UMass Boston finished the season with an overall record of 11-21, including a 3-11 mark in LEC play to establish a school-record for conference victories. |
