Women’s Tennis Suffers First Loss of the Year at Mt. Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – After a dominating win yesterday afternoon in their opener the women's tennis team (1-1) looked to continue their winning ways Saturday morning as they faced a tough Mt. Holyoke College squad at the MHC Field House.  Unfortunately it was the host Lyons that walked away the victors as they defeated UMB 8-1.

Notching the Beacons lone win of the day was freshman Nuha Muntasser (Braintree, Mass.) at first singles.  The newcomer had to go the distance against the Lyons AnnElizabeth Konkel, but would eventually walk away with a 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) decision.  Muntasser and senior Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.) would drop their first doubles match by the final of 8-2.

Kloczewiak was defeated in second singles by the final of 6-0, 6-2 to Maya Sayarath.  Solveig Castelli (Precojo, France) would record the only other Beacons points in singles play as she dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at fifth flight.

In doubles play Sam Counts (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Castelli were defeated by the final of 8-1 in second doubles, while Kelsey Shea (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Vicky Woytowicz (Springfield, Mass.) were also handed an 8-1 loss at third doubles.

Women's tennis returns to action on Tuesday when they host Colby-Sawyer College at 3 p.m. at Boston College High School Tennis Courts.
